Fencing in Hertfordshire.
Hertfordshire work clusters around Watford and St Albans: 1930s semis with side access, newer closes with shared boundaries, and a good number of period properties in the conservation areas where the fence has to look right as well as stand up. Plots are generous by London standards, so runs are longer and the per-metre rate is friendlier than it would be five miles further in.
What the ground here does to a fence
Chalk with clay-with-flints on top across much of the county. Solid ground for posts, but the flint layer is what turns a quick dig into a slow one on the older plots.
