Fencing in West Sussex.

Our West Sussex work sits in the northern half of the county, along the RH corridor either side of the Weald. Horsham and the estates around it are dominated by second-generation fencing — developer boundaries reaching the end of a short life all at once — while East Grinstead and the villages towards Ashurst Wood run to longer plots that back onto woodland and fields. Both share one problem, and it is underfoot rather than overhead.

What the ground here does to a fence

Wealden clay holds water for months, so a timber post set straight into soil rots at the ground line long before the boards fail. Concrete posts and gravel boards are the default here, and buried builder's rubble is common on the newer estates.
