Fencing in Kent.

Kent is two jobs in one county. The north-west corner around Dartford is commuter-belt housing on chalk and made ground, where replacement fencing after a storm or a failed contractor is the bulk of the work. Head south into the Weald around Sevenoaks and Tonbridge and plots open out — long garden boundaries, ragstone walls to tie into, listed-building and conservation constraints in the older villages, and a lot of exposed runs that need concrete posts rather than timber.

What the ground here does to a fence

Chalk in the north, Wealden clay in the south, and ragstone close to the surface around Sevenoaks. Chalk and stone both slow the digging; the Weald holds water, which is what rots a timber post at ground level.

Kent prices, per metre fitted.

Supply and installation, VAT included, for a standard replacement on clear ground. These are the same figures our estimator uses — updated August 2026.

Worked example

18 m of 6 ft closeboard with concrete posts and gravel boards, standard access, clear boundary — £2,800–£3,800 fitted.

Taking the old fence away is an optional extra you choose on the estimate form — it's priced separately and isn't in the figures above. Minimum job £1,200.

Kent straddles two of our pricing bands — the far end of the county comes in slightly under these figures. Your estimate uses your own postcode, not the county average.
